This is a superb performance and recording of what may be the finest works by Gilles. It's certainly the best Gilles recording to date. As on the Levens Te Deum released on Éditions Hortus, Volny Hostiou plays a serpent, which can be heard prominently in several movements including antiphonal notes in one chorus. Grands motets: Paratum cor meum, Laetatus sum, Laudate nomen Domini, Velum templi scissum est. Petits motets: Usquequo Domine, Afferte Domino, Cantus dent uberes. This may be the finest Gilles disk to date. The grand motet "Velum templi scissum est" has a "tremblers' chorus" after Lully's Isis to the words "et omnis terra tremult". UK | FR | DE | CA | JP
