Handel Oratorios Arranged by Mozart & Mendelssohn

Mozart reorchestrated four works by Handel: Acis & Galatea, the Ode for St. Cecilia's Day, Alexander's Feast, and Messiah.

Handel, arranged by Mozart. Acis & Galatea (K.566, 1788). DG-Archiv 435 792-2 (2 CDs 1992). Trevor Pinnock, The English Concert. Acis: Jamie MacDougall, tenor; Galatea: Barbara Bonney, soprano; Damon: Markus Schäfer, tenor; Polyphemus: John Tomlinson, bass. Sung in German. Fine performance and recording. To my ears, the most significant difference is in "Love Sounds the Alarm", to which Mozart added horns. US | UK | DE | FR | CA | JP
