Rodrigo (1707)

By George Frideric Handel (Georg Friedrich Händel)

Recordings

Handel. Water Music / Rodrigo Suite. Naïve V5234 (1 CD, September 2010). Details. Marc Minkowski, Les Musiciens du Louvre - Grenoble. Winton Dean writes in the first volume of Handel's Operas that the "Rodrigo Suite", which appears in the HG edition of Rodrigo, probably was an independent work or the conclusion of a long work, not necessarily Rodrigo. Since the theme of one movement is the same as an aria in Agrippina, he speculates that it might have been composed as ballet music at the conclusion of Agrippina. Only the first two movements (overture) are included in the Curtis and López Banzo recordings of Rodrigo. US | UK | FR | DE | CA | JP
