A Note About Web Browsers
NewOlde.com used to display poorly in IE and perfectly in Firefox. Now, despite no change in my coding, it displays perfectly in IE and slightly less well in Firefox and Chrome. In all the browsers you can enlarge or reduce font size to your personal taste by holding down the Control key and pressing + to increase font size or - to decrease it.
Essential Firefox Add-ons:
Adblock Plus - Automatically eliminates nearly all ads. Right click to kill flashing, moving or other annoying graphics.
Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper - Use to eliminate columns or rows on webpages that contain nothing but junk.
AutoPager Fixed - Automatically loads the next page on compatible sites that continue content from page to page.
bug489729 - Fixes a bug in Firefox that causes windows to open instead of tabs. After installing, it, click on Options in the Add-ons list and tick Disable Detach Tab.
HTTPS Everywhere - Encrypts communications with many major websites.
NoSquint - Saves your preferred font sizes for each domain and allows adjustment of the +/- font increment.
NoScript - Kills scripts unless authorized on specific domains.
TrackMeNot - Runs searches in the background that make it impossible for trackers to isolate your actual searches.
Video Download Helper - Simplifies downloading YouTube videos.
Similar extensions to many of the above are available for Chrome, e.g., AdblockPlus. The Chrome equivalent of NoScript is ScriptSafe. A very useful feature of Chrome is the High Contrast Extension. You can invert colors by clicking on an icon. This makes it possible to read white text on black backgrounds easily. If the inverted page is too light, simply Select All (Ctrl-A).
